Approche spécifique de la thématique

Les thèmes majeurs de recherche de la Section NME sont la compréhension des mécanismes biologiques des liens entre obésité, dysfonctionnements métaboliques et cancer ; l'identification de biomarqueurs nutritionnels et d'empreintes métaboliques de l'alimentation à travers des études d'intervention et observationnelles et l'étude de leur relation avec le cancer ; les études sur la multi-morbidité permettant d'identifier des mécanismes communs au développement du cancer, du diabète et des maladies cardiovasculaires.

La section NME comprend trois groupes: le groupe Biomarqueurs (BMA), le groupe d'Epidémiologie Nutritionnelle (NEP) et le groupe de Méthodologie Nutritionnelle et Biostatistiques (NMB).

Les activités de BMA se répartissent entre le développement et la validation de techniques analytiques de pointe et leur application dans des études d'épidémiologie du cancer. Au sein de ses laboratoires, le groupe utilise et développe des méthodes de métabolomique ciblées et non-ciblées. Le groupe NEP coordonne plusieurs études épidémiologiques à grande échelle dont la principale est la cohorte européenne EPIC (European Investigation into Cancer and Nutrition, ainsi que plusieurs études cas-témoins dans des pays en voie de développement (Amérique Latine, Afrique).
Le groupe NMB développe des méthodes statistiques permettant d'intégrer des données épidémiologiques de différentes origines (données alimentaires et de mode de vie, métabolomique, épigénétique) pour l'étude de l'étiologie du cancer et d'autres maladies chroniques.
