Adapting water use by the agriculture sector
AGADAPT will develop and deploy novel methods to optimize water use in agriculture by estimating irrigation needs at field level, by evaluating future water resource for agriculture at regional level and by considering reuse water
By combining knowledge-based innovative technologies and modelling AGADAPT will demonstrate the adding value offered by state of the art research results for water resource management in Agriculture. The project will include the development of an improved forecast module for soil moisture and plant water status at the field scale for irrigation scheduling; the assessment of water resources at the river basin scale by combining eco-hydrological and water demand models for the design of adaptation strategy under global changes; and the evaluation of alternative water resources for re-use of sewage water.
The added value for both climate change adaptation and mitigation, and water management will be demonstrated on case study. Main outcomes will be then demonstrators showing the impact of the proposed methodologies and therefore promote their development with companies that are interested to go further towards marketable products.
