LabEx BASC

Resarch within BASC

BASC is structured around three interconnected and interdisciplinary axes focused on understanding and predicting:

  1. the dynamics of interactions between global change drivers including climate change, land use, pollution, and invasive species and their impacts on biodiversity, ecosystem services and SES,
  2. the capacity of organisms, ecosystems and social systems to adapt to global change and
  3. the technical and social innovations  necessary to transform SES from unsustainable to sustainable pathways.

The first two axes define the vulnerability of socio-ecosystems (SES); the third one ways in which vulnerability of SES can be reduced by lowering pressures on them. The delineation between these axes does not constitute a causal chain, but rather components that interact to determine the dynamics of SES. These three axes are supported by strategies to build upon a wide range models being developed by BASC teams and their partners and to reinforce analytical, observational and experimental platforms in BASC.

Furthermore, BASC research is organised around four main themes:
