Subfamily : Chaitophorinae

This genus is characterized by individuals covered with hairs and also bearing short, cylindrical cornicles.

This genus contains numerous species and exclusively colonizes Salicaceae: Populus (poplar), Salix (willows)

 

Chaitophorus, from the subfamily Chaitophorinae is closely related to the genus Periphyllus, but distinguishable by certain individuals :

 - smaller than Periphyllus

 - with a knobbed cauda

 - and cornicles with length equal to diameter of base
