This genus is characterized by the presence of wax glands; the white wooly wax so produced then covers the colonies.

This genus consists of only four species, all dependent on Fagus. They are characterized by a short processus terminalis on antenna and cornicles in the form of a ring. The most frequent is Phyllaphis fagi.
