The insect predators of aphids

The aphids represent a regular food resource, drawn on by numerous predators, especially insects.

The insect predators of aphids, auxiliaries for agriculture, are distributed over many entomological families. The best known is probably the Coccinellidae (ladybirds) wnich belong to the order Coleoptera. This order comprises other families that are also predators of aphids. Besides the Coleoptera, there are Diptera (hoverflies), Neuroptera (lacewings), Dermaptera, Hymenoptera and Hemiptera whose significance as predators remains to be properly established.
