Fostering resilience in complex social-ecological systems requires an integrative and metadisciplinary framework, where each discipline faces its own scientific challenges (e.g. to understand and simulate basic mechanisms of adaptation) and where global projections for the whole system emerge from the integration of all this knowledge. Interdisciplinary activities operate on concepts, data and models. Open data is a new challenge (Reichman et al., 2011)[1], particularly in the scientific domains considered here: ecology, forest management and economics. Methods and tools for data discovery and data sharing contribute to bridge across disciplines. Similarly, methods for coupling or interfacing models can be used at interdisciplinary level, both for basic research as well as for operational tools.
