This web site supplies information on recent editions of the LCA Food conferences and makes available the proceedings of the conferences.

The production, transformation, distribution and consumption of food contribute to human health and prosperity. However, the agriculture and food sectors also cause major environmental impacts. As the human population grows in number and wealth, demand for food will increase, putting more pressure on land and other inputs for food production, while climate change will pose increasing challenges to agricultural production. Therefore, a shift towards sustainable food systems is essential and urgent. During the last two decades, Life Cycle Assessment (LCA) in the agro-food sector has developed rapidly as a major tool to guide this evolution.

The LCA Food conferences have become the world’s premier scientific forum on LCA in the agro-food sector, involving several hundreds of participants from research institutes, academia, private companies, government, NGOs and international organizations. Editions of the conference took place in Belgium (1996, 1998), Sweden (2001, 2007), Denmark (2003), Switzerland (2008), Italy (2010), France (2012), USA (2014), Ireland (2016) and Thailand (2018). The LCA Food conferences reflect the rapid development of an interdisciplinary research and development community at the intersection between the agronomic, food/nutrition science and environmental system analysis disciplines.

La production, la transformation, la distribution et la consommation d'aliments contribuent à la santé humaine et à la prospérité. Toutefois, les secteurs agricole et agroalimentaire contribuent fortement aux impacts environnementaux. Au fur et à mesure que la population humaine grandit en nombre et en richesse, la demande de nourriture augmentera, exerçant davantage de pression sur la terre et d'autres intrants pour la production alimentaire, pendant que le changement climatique posera des défis grandissants à la production agricole. Par conséquent, un changement vers des systèmes alimentaires durables est essentiel et urgent. Les conférences LCA food sont devenues le premier forum scientifique sur l'ACV dans le secteur agroalimentaire, impliquant plusieurs centaines de participants d'instituts de recherche, universités, entreprises privées, gouvernement, ONG et organisations internationales.
