SPS - Saclay Plant Sciences

SPS'innov, a winning "package"

Partenariat

The goal of the SPS’innov call is to promote collaborative research between SPS teams and and private companies (start-ups, SMEs, multinational corporations, technical institutes, EPIC [French Public Industrial and Commercial Establishments], etc.) to develop high-risk innovative projects with a strong potential for added value.

The selected projects, with levels 2 to 4 in the TRL scale, receive funding through a "package" covering the salary of an engineer for one year and 10k€ for running costs. To be eligible, a project has to include an equivalent contribution from the private partner(s), which may be provision of personnel, databases, equipment, biological material, etc. or a direct financial contribution.

Since 2012, 13 projects involving 17 different private partners have been funded by SPS through this call. Some projects, with high potential for valorization (e.g. construction of prototypes) used this springboard to be eligible in both the Idex Paris-Saclay Prematuration and SATT Paris-Saclay maturation processes.

The 8 young engineers recruited for these projects and who have finished their contract more than 2 months ago all found a job. One of them was hired by the partner company and continues to work in the SPS research team. Another is pursuing a CIFRE thesis, thus consolidating the partnership developed during the SPS'innov project.

More generally, about half of the projects continued after the SPS'innov contract, with funds coming from the companies or from other calls for projects.

There are still a few SPS'innov packages available and the deadline for submitting a project has been postponed to June 30, 2018. We therefore strongly encourage LabEx teams and companies to apply! SPS'innov projects can be submitted at any time by e-mail to ip-sps@listes.inra.fr. The terms and conditions of submission and the documents to be completed are available here.
