Newsletter 1

Newsletter SPS

NUMBER 1 : FEBRUARY 2015

Editorial

Dear all,

Here is the first issue of the SPS newsletter. It is published at an important stage in the life of the LabEx, marked by the creation of the Université Paris-Saclay (January 1st, 2015).  The work done during the early years has strengthened and significantly streamlined research (e.g. Lidex 3P project and new Institute of Plant Sciences Paris-Saclay IPS2) and teaching (Master’s) in Plant Sciences and improved their visibility in Saclay and at the international level. We are for instance organizing the International Conference on Arabidopsis Research (ICAR 2015, 5-9 July) for the first time in France.

Taking these results into account, it seems that during the second period of the LabEx project (2016-2019), while continuing to support academic excellence (training and research), priority should be given to innovation-oriented activities.

First, because this is a duty for all “Investment for the future” programs, including Laboratories of Excellence. Secondly, because we believe that plant sciences could contribute to the sustainable development of agriculture, health, food and feed, green chemistry and environmental protection.
Finally, this seems to be the best way today to extend the activities of the SPS LabEx beyond 2019 (end of PIA IdEx and LabEx projects). This prospect will be discussed during the coming months with the LabEx working groups, our institutions and our international scientific advisory board, before launching new open calls.

Loïc Lepiniec, Coordinator of SPS

•SPS'innov call

The SPS'innov open call for proposals is devoted to public-private partnerships. It will be launched at the end of February 2015. Projects may be submitted at any time during the year. The main objective of the call is to improve interactions between academic research and private partners (multinationals, SMEs and agronomic networks) to develop innovative projects displaying a high potential for adding value.
