Plant adaptation to the environment

Plant adaptation to the environment

Use the defense capacity of plants and their adaptability to adapt to the environment to improve yield and product quality, mitigate climate change and reduce inputs.

Study the response to environmental stresses, biotic and abiotic, to develop varieties adapted to diverse environments.

The SPS teams explore the adaptation mechanisms  of plants to their environment in order to optimize plant productivity under limiting conditions. They study in particular plant responses to water and thermal stress, their capacity to use mineral resources and their tolerance to diseases. These studies contribute to the development of plant varieties adapted to the changing climate and requiring less fertilizer and pesticide treatments.

Expertise in different environmental stresses

  • Response to water stress (duration, extent of the deficit, stage of development, high or low temperature, etc ...)
  • Response to thermal stress : adaptation of plants to  temperature changes in (heat, chilling)
  • Use efficiency of mineral resources : nitrogen, sulfur, phosphorus,…
  • Resistance to pathogens : bacteria, viruses, fungi, pests (insects)
