SOERE PRO - Sénégal, initiated in 2016, is one of the SOERE PRO strongly instrumented experimental field.

SOERE PRO Senegal has been initiated in 2016

The SOERE PRO - Senegal site was set up in 2016 until 2019 on the ISRA station (Senegalese Institute of Agricultural Research) of Sangalkam by CIRAD UPR Recycling and Risk within the LMI IE SOL (International Mixed Laboratory Ecological Intensification of Cultivated Soils in West Africa).

The objectives are :

  • To follow the major biogeochemical cycles of major elements     
  • To optimize and compare the recycling of agricultural and urban organic materials   
  • To quantify the flux of pollutants  
  • To monitor the evolution of soil biology.

Treatments

The field experimental design is a complete randomized block experiment (parcels of 64 m² and 3 repetitions by treatment) with the following treatments :

  • Litter of poultry, brought to a dose of mineral fertilization of 100% (LV 100)
  • Litter of poultry, brought to a dose of mineral fertilization of 200 % (LV 200)
  • Sewage sludge, brought to a dose of mineral fertilization of 100 % (B 100)
  • Sewage sludge, brought to a dose of mineral fertilization of 200 % (B 200)
  • Methanation digestate, brought to a dose of mineral fertilization of 100 % (DM 100)
  • Methanation digestate, brought to a dose of mineral fertilization of 200 % (DM 200)
  • Control: mineral fertilization of 100 % (T 100)

Site management

The device is set up in a context of peri-urban agriculture. It is grown in market gardening. Organic waste products from urban and agricultural origin are brought in high doses and they are rich in contaminants.

Pedo-climatic context

The soil is sandy.

Site instrumentation and monitoring

The device is equipped to follow :

  • The soil climate: a profile equipped by treatment with TDR probes and tensiometers; temperature probes
  • Water percolating through the soil: lysimetric plates implanted at 40 cm depth
